SEASON ENDS
It’s closing time for a Keene homeless shelter
By Dave Eisenstadter Sentinel Staff
The hundredth night has passed.
Hundred Nights,a cold-weather overnight shelter on Lamson Street, closed for the season this morning.
In preparation for this,Southwestern Community Services Director of Homeless Services Laurie J. Saunders-Jewett has been working with Hundred Nights CEO Deborah J. Chambers to find housing for those still using the shelter. She has received five new applications for housing in the past week.
Hundred Nights made things easier on the homeless during the time it was open, but the population will not go away simply because it is spring, she said.
“It doesn’t matter what time of year it is;homelessness is constant all year round.”
